Meet Rindy Loucks ...

rindy

Although born and raised on Vancouver Island I have Jamaican family (that is spread around the island, the States and Canada but generally located in the Parish of Clarendon). As a youth I was involved in dance which built both early strength development and discipline. In high school I was very active in the arts and in sports, excelling in basketball and track and field. I also became very active in weight lifting/training and cycling which I still maintain. In 2001 I took up triathlon and competed at the amateur level, consistently finishing in the mid-top of races as well as achieving podium positions.2003 was the start of my skeleton career and in the ensuing years I have achieved podium finishes in local and invitational circuits as well as respectable finishes in Nationals. The 2008/2009 season marked my first full season on the International competitive circuits competing under the Jamaican flag.

Outside of my sports, my work and personal interests have been community and education minded. In 1996, in a bid to find both physically and mentally challenging work that helped fulfill a desire to contribute to my community I joined the local volunteer fire department (Pitt Meadows Fire Dept.) where I was a firefighter and Fire Education ‘officer’ for the next 8 years. In 1999 I graduated from Simon Fraser University with my BA in Visual Arts and English and, with my goal of becoming a high school teacher, I received my B.Ed degree from SFU in 2004. Currently I work as a ‘Teacher on Call’, mostly in the P.E. and art departments, which enables me to continue to pursue my skeleton training and competition.
